Pigmentation Treatment

The bane of Asian women. The good news is that pigmentation can be treated and reduced. Bad news is that it might not be fully removed and it might even return, especially for hormone related Melasma. The range of pigmentation is very diverse. From Freckles, Hori`s Nevus, Melasma, Nevus of Ota, “sun spots”, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) etc

I use prescription de-pigmentation creams and non-prescription de-pigmentation creams/gels, pigmentation mask treatment as well as different lasers with different wavelengths for treatment. The mainstay for pigmentation treatment however, is Laser, which usually requires multiple sessions spread over months or even years in the case of severe melasma.

Some pigmentation treatment require a Laser treatment that involves “downtime”. Others do not. The frequency of treatment is usually once a month. I use Revlite Q- Switched Nd-Yag Laser at different wavelengths of 1064nm , 523nm, 585nm as well as Carbon Dioxide pixelated Smartxide Squared Laser by DEKA (which incidentally I was told also makes Industrial Lasers for cutting leather for Prada).

Sunscreen of course is strongly encouraged. Oral sunblock supplements with anti-oxidants are also helpful.
